President Bola Tinubu on Friday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, describing it as a crucial step toward stabilising Nigeria’s economy and delivering inclusive growth.
The budget, themed “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” builds on over two years of economic reforms aimed at restoring confidence, strengthening resilience and moving the country from survival to growth.
Addressing lawmakers, Tinubu acknowledged the hardship caused by ongoing reforms but assured Nigerians that the sacrifices were necessary for long-term stability and better living standards. He said early signs of progress were already visible, including improved economic growth, easing inflation, rising oil production, stronger non-oil revenues and increased investor confidence.
According to the President, the 2026 budget focuses on consolidating these gains while ensuring that growth translates into jobs, higher incomes and improved quality of life for citizens. He stressed that fiscal discipline, improved revenue mobilisation and accountability would guide implementation.
Tinubu disclosed that the budget projects total revenue of ₦34.33 trillion and total expenditure of ₦58.18 trillion, with ₦26.08 trillion allocated to capital projects. Key priority areas include security, infrastructure, education and health.

The President urged lawmakers to support the budget, describing it not as a collection of promises but a practical plan to deepen reforms and deliver tangible results to Nigerians.
He concluded by calling for cooperation between the executive and legislature to fully realise the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda and steer Nigeria toward a more secure, prosperous and hopeful future.
