President Bola Tinubu has once again emphasised that restoring peace, strengthening national security, and expanding economic opportunities remain at the heart of his administration’s agenda.
This message was conveyed in Lokoja on Sunday during the memorial of former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, represented the President at the event and restated the government’s commitment to tackling threats to national stability.
According to Idris, the Federal Government is fully aware of the recent security setbacks and is taking decisive steps to address them.
“The security and welfare of every Nigerian remain a sacred priority. We have therefore taken decisive action,” he said.
He noted that the recently declared State of Emergency on national security signals a more aggressive approach to fighting insecurity. This includes increasing manpower for the armed forces, acquiring advanced weaponry, strengthening intelligence operations, and pursuing constitutional reforms — particularly the establishment of State Police.
Idris stressed that State Police is crucial for more community-focused security and will also boost employment across local areas.
He added that the government is intensifying diplomatic efforts to counter false narratives about Nigeria’s religious harmony on the international stage.

Honouring Prince Abubakar Audu
Reflecting on the legacy of the late Prince Abubakar Audu, President Tinubu described him as a foundational figure in Nigeria’s democratic development.
“Audu was not just a politician; he was a pathfinder,” Tinubu said. He recalled their political partnership and noted that Audu’s vision and bold leadership continue to inspire the administration.
Economic and Social Reforms
The President highlighted several ongoing reforms, including:
Modernising livestock farming, with large-scale ranches and improved animal husbandry.
Strengthening social investment programmes to support vulnerable citizens, small businesses and young people.
Expanding national infrastructure, aimed at boosting industry, connecting markets and improving national unity.
Tinubu assured the people of Kogi State that the development foundation laid by Prince Audu is a model his administration intends to scale nationwide.
Rising Insecurity Across States
Tinubu’s renewed commitment to security comes amid a surge in kidnappings in Niger and Kebbi states. Dozens of students, teachers and residents have been abducted in recent weeks, prompting school closures in some northern states.
In response, the President cancelled planned trips to South Africa and Angola to personally coordinate security strategies.
