Tinubu Unveils 2025 Goals: Food, Drug Cost Reduction, and Economic Growth Take Center Stage

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outlined his administration's ambitious goals for 2025, placing a strong emphasis on cutting the cost of food and essential drugs, reducing inflation, and fostering economic growth.

In his New Year address, broadcast across national media platforms, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to lowering inflation from 34.6% to 15% and expanding access to credit for individuals and critical sectors.

Key Plans for 2025

  • National Credit Guarantee Company: Scheduled to launch in the second quarter, this initiative will expand credit access by providing risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions and underserved groups, such as women and youth.
  • Reduction in Living Costs: The government plans to intensify efforts to lower food prices and promote local manufacturing of essential drugs.
  • Youth Conference: In response to 2024’s cost of living protests, the first-ever Youth Confab is set for the first quarter to promote inclusivity and youth engagement in nation-building.
  • National Values Charter: Approved by the Federal Executive Council, this initiative aims to foster patriotism and mutual trust between the government and citizens.

Economic Outlook

President Tinubu highlighted promising economic indicators, including:

  • Gradual reduction in fuel prices.
  • Foreign trade surpluses across three consecutive quarters.
  • Strengthened foreign reserves and a stable Naira.
  • Record growth in the stock market, generating trillions in wealth.
  • Increased foreign investment, reflecting renewed confidence in the economy.

Tinubu urged state governors and local council chairpersons to collaborate with the Federal Government, especially in agriculture, livestock development, and tax reforms, to harness emerging opportunities.

A Call for Unity and Patriotism

The President emphasized the importance of unity, ethical values, and devotion to the country, describing these as foundational to achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda. He announced plans for a national orientation campaign to inspire patriotism and foster a shared identity.

Speaker Abbas and Deputy Speaker Kalu Echo Optimism

House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen expressed confidence in the government’s efforts to address national challenges, while Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu pledged legislative support to tackle pressing issues, including economic development, healthcare, and national security.
