A tragic accident in Majiya village, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has claimed the lives of over 100 people, with more than 50 others hospitalized. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when a petrol tanker crashed and spilled its contents, leading to a deadly explosion.
According to reports, the tanker was traveling from Port Harcourt to Nguru, Yobe State, when the driver lost control at around 12:30 am. Villagers rushed to the scene to scoop fuel, unaware of the imminent danger, before the explosion occurred.

Jigawa State Police spokesperson, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement. He explained that the tanker’s fuel spilled into the village's gutters and drainages, igniting a massive fire.
So far, 95 people have been confirmed dead, and 50 others are receiving treatment in local hospitals. Authorities are urging the public to stay clear of such hazardous situations in the future to avoid similar tragedies.
