Tragedy in Jigawa: Three Teenage Girls Drown in Buji Pond

In a heartbreaking incident, three teenage girls drowned on Saturday morning while cutting grass to feed their livestock near a pond in Buji Local Government Area, Jigawa State. The victims, identified as Fatima Sule, 12; Nasiya Sale, 12; and Huwaila Sa’adu, 13, were from Tulla village. The tragedy occurred around 11 a.m. and has left the community in deep mourning.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) received a distress call shortly after the incident. The spokesperson for the state command, ASC Badaruddeen Tijuana, confirmed that NSCDC personnel, along with local residents, recovered the girls' bodies after a 30-minute search. Despite rushing them to the nearest health center, all three were pronounced dead on arrival.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the girls were cutting grass at the edge of the pond when they tragically drowned. Their bodies were later handed over to their families and buried according to Islamic rites.

NSCDC Commandant Muhammad Danjuma expressed his condolences to the grieving families and urged parents to closely monitor their children's movements, especially near flooded ponds and rivers, to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
