A devastating road accident on Thursday evening at Kanbi village along the new Jebba road in Kwara State has claimed the lives of 19 individuals and left five others injured. The collision involved a blue Iveco trailer and a white Toyota Hiace bus, with preliminary investigations pointing to excessive speed and reckless overtaking as contributing factors.
According to Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the victims included 11 adult males, three adult females, three male children, and two female children. The injured, comprising three male adults and two female adults, were promptly transported to Orisun Ayo Hospital for urgent medical attention. One casualty was placed in the hospital morgue, while families claimed the remains of the other 18 deceased.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the persistent disregard for traffic regulations that jeopardizes lives and property. "The alarming rate of recklessness among drivers is unacceptable," remarked Mohammed, who has instructed Commanding Officers to escalate special patrol operations to curb such violations and enhance road safety.
Efforts to reduce road accidents remain a priority for the FRSC, as they continue to advocate for safer driving practices and enforce stringent traffic laws across the country.
