Six military personnel, including a Captain, were found dead in the Allawa area of Shiroro local government area in Niger state, suspected to have been killed by terrorists in an ambush. The troops were responding to distress calls from the area when they were attacked. Their bodies, discovered in the bush on Saturday, were found without uniforms and had gunshot wounds to the head.
Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the commissioner of homeland security, Rtd General Garba Abdullahi Mohammed, confirmed the incident. Governor Bago condemned the attack, describing it as atrocious, provocative, and unacceptable. He expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army and all security agencies, praising their sacrifices in protecting citizens.
The governor promised continued support to security agencies, both conventional and non-conventional, in combating criminal activities. He also extended condolences to the families of the slain soldiers and promised that their deaths would not be in vain.
The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Nigeria, particularly in regions plagued by terrorism and banditry.
