Tragic Tunnel Crash: 14 Dead, 37 Injured in Northern China Bus Accident

Fourteen people lost their lives and 37 others sustained injuries following a bus accident inside an expressway tunnel in northern China. The tragic incident took place around 2:30 pm local time (0630 GMT) on Tuesday, according to state broadcaster CCTV, citing local authorities in Shanxi province. The bus, carrying 51 individuals, collided with the tunnel's interior wall.

State news agency Xinhua confirmed the number of casualties in a separate report but did not provide details on the condition of the survivors. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, Xinhua added.

China frequently experiences road accidents due to lax safety regulations. In February last year, 16 people died and several others were injured in a pile-up in central Hunan province. Similarly, the previous month saw a road accident in eastern Jiangxi province that claimed the lives of 19 individuals and left 20 others injured.
