In Zamfara State, troops conducting operations have successfully eliminated 12 terrorists and seized a cache of arms and ammunition. The operation, which took place on Monday in Maru Local Government Area, also saw the destruction of a terrorist enclave. Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed these developments in a statement on Tuesday.
The troops recovered 10 motorbikes used by the terrorists for mobility, as well as 18 rustled cows. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a targeted clearance operation to dismantle the terrorists' operational base in Maru town. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of 12 terrorists and the recovery of weapons such as an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two locally fabricated guns.
Maj.-Gen. Nwachukwu emphasized that this operation marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts in the northwest region. He reiterated the Nigerian Army's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and pledged to continue taking decisive action against terrorist activities in the region.
