Troops Neutralize Bandit, Recover Weapons in Benue Raid

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have stepped up their fight against criminal gangs across Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States, killing one bandit and recovering a large cache of weapons during a raid on Mbagen community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to Acting Media Information Officer Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the operation happened on Tuesday when ground troops, supported by the Air Component, launched a surprise attack on a notorious gang’s hideout.

The troops reportedly came under heavy gunfire upon arrival, leading to an intense shootout. One bandit was killed, while the gang leader escaped with gunshot wounds.

A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, five AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, a hand grenade, two BAOFENG radios, 162 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and one motorcycle believed to have been used for criminal operations.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their bravery and tactical efficiency. He said the successful operation had disrupted the activities of criminal groups responsible for killings, kidnappings, and other crimes in the region.

Gara warned armed groups in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States to surrender or face decisive military action, reaffirming OPWS’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the area.
