Troost-Ekong Leads Super Eagles Boycott Threat After Hostile Treatment in Libya

CAF

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has announced that the Nigerian team will refuse to play their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya after facing severe mistreatment upon arrival. The team was stranded at the airport for over 12 hours after their flight, which was initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, was diverted to another city, leaving them with a two-hour road journey to their destination.

Troost-Ekong took to social media to express his frustration, revealing that the airport gates were locked, and the team had no access to food, water, or phone connection. The Nigerian captain described the situation as "disgraceful," sharing that even the Tunisian pilot was forced to sleep on the plane due to being denied access to nearby hotels.

In his post, Troost-Ekong called on the Nigerian government to intervene, stating that the team had collectively decided not to play under such conditions. He emphasized that the Super Eagles have always treated their guests with respect and would not tolerate the dangerous and unfair treatment they received in Libya.

The Super Eagles captain also urged CAF to investigate the situation, noting that the team values their safety above all. Troost-Ekong declared that the team would not risk their lives or health for a match under such hostile circumstances.
