Trump Administration Sues New York Over Immigration Enforcement

The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against New York, accusing the state of obstructing federal immigration enforcement efforts. US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the legal action, criticizing New York’s policies that prevent law enforcement from checking the immigration status of individuals and alert undocumented migrants when federal agencies request their information.

Bondi asserted that New York’s actions prioritize undocumented migrants over American citizens and vowed to hold states accountable for non-compliance with federal law. The lawsuit follows similar legal actions against Illinois and Chicago.

The legal move aligns with former President Trump’s 2024 campaign pledge to implement mass deportations. Bondi highlighted cases of violent crimes committed by undocumented migrants, while critics argue that data shows US citizens commit more crimes per capita. Trump’s administration has consistently targeted sanctuary cities, claiming they harbor undocumented migrants and compromise public safety.
