Trump Campaign Raises Record $53 Million After Hush Money Trial Conviction

Former President Donald Trump's campaign announced on Friday that it had raised nearly $53 million in online small-dollar donations following his conviction in the New York hush money trial. The campaign highlighted that the verdict had significantly boosted his support, raising more than $2 million per hour.

Senior campaign aides Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles reported that over a third of the total donations came from new donors. They described the surge in contributions as an "outpouring of support from patriots across our country," with the digital fundraising system experiencing temporary delays due to overwhelming traffic.

The fundraising milestone was achieved after a jury convicted Trump on Thursday of all 34 charges related to falsifying business records to cover up a sex scandal during the final stages of the 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors alleged that Trump had an affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels shortly after his wife Melania gave birth in 2006 and paid hush money a decade later to avoid public fallout, subsequently creating false paperwork to conceal the payment.

Trump's advisors labeled the court decision a "sham trial verdict" and emphasized the strong financial support from his base despite the legal challenges. Trump's sentencing is scheduled for July 11, although he is expected to appeal the verdict.
