Trump Claims ‘Regime Change’ in Iran, Signals Possible Deal

US President Donald Trump has said the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran has effectively led to a regime change, while expressing confidence that a deal with Tehran could soon be reached.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump pointed to the deaths of key Iranian leaders during the conflict as evidence of a shift in power.

“I think we’ll make a deal with them, pretty sure… but we’ve had regime change,” he said. “We’re dealing with different people than anybody’s dealt with before. It’s a whole different group of people. So I would consider that regime change.”

Following the reported killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, in an airstrike at the start of the war on February 28, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has reportedly emerged as the country’s new supreme leader — the third since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The conflict has also had major global economic implications. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical route for about 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas supply — has pushed oil prices sharply upward.

However, Trump suggested that tensions may be easing, revealing that Iran had allowed several oil tankers to pass through the strategic waterway.

“They gave us, I think, out of a sign of respect, 20 boats of oil, big, big boats of oil going through the Hormuz Strait,” he said, adding that the shipments would begin immediately.

The development signals a possible shift toward negotiations, even as the conflict continues to reshape political and economic dynamics in the region.
