Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has dismissed claims that the United States or former President Donald Trump is unhappy with the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, saying the opposite is true.
Speaking on Sunday during a press briefing at the refinery in Lekki, Lagos, Dangote said the U.S. is actually a major beneficiary of the refinery’s operations, as it supplies a large portion of the crude oil processed at the facility.
According to him, Nigeria does not currently produce enough crude oil to meet local demand, forcing the refinery to source crude from countries such as Ghana, other African nations, and the United States.
“We are not getting enough crude, so that’s why we buy from Ghana and a few other African countries. We also buy from the U.S.,” Dangote said.
He described the U.S. as one of Nigeria’s biggest crude oil suppliers and stressed that claims suggesting Trump is unhappy with the refinery are false.

“The U.S. has been one of our major suppliers of crude. So when people say Trump is not happy with our refinery, that is not true. Trump is more than happy with our refinery because of the scale of business involved,” he stated.
Dangote revealed that Nigeria buys no fewer than 100 million barrels of crude oil annually from the U.S., adding that the volume could rise to about 200 million barrels if supply increases.
He also noted that the trade relationship is mutually beneficial, as Nigeria exports aviation fuel and gasoline to the United States, further strengthening energy cooperation between both countries.
