Gunmen have once again targeted the Tilengpat Pushit community in Plateau State, resulting in the tragic deaths of twelve individuals. The attacks, which led to the fatalities, occurred late Thursday evening. This incident follows a similar one last week, where gunmen killed at least ten people in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages in Bokkos and Mangu local government areas, leaving several others injured and homes destroyed by fire.
Markus Argue, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, confirmed the recent killings, expressing disbelief at the senseless targeting of women and children in their homes. He stated that an assessment of the situation was ongoing, and the exact number of victims is yet to be determined.
In Pushit, a community leader named John reported the recovery of twelve bodies from the scene of the attack and the nearby bush. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed pending family notification. Law enforcement agencies are conducting investigations to understand the motives behind these crimes and apprehend the perpetrators.
While the Plateau State Police Command's spokesman, Alabo Alfred, could not be immediately reached for comment, sources at the Command headquarters in Jos confirmed the deployment of security operatives to the affected community. In response to the violence, women in Bokkos Local Government Area staged protests, marching to the Council headquarters to voice their grievances over the recurring attacks by gunmen in their communities.
