Two YPP Members Defect to Labour Party in Abia State

In a significant political move, two members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Iheanacho Nwogu and Mr. Fine Ahuama, representing Osisioma North and Osisioma South State Constituencies respectively, have formally defected to the Labour Party (LP).

The defectors were warmly received by Governor Alex Otti at the Government House, Umuahia, where he praised their consistent support for his administration regardless of their political affiliations. Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to transparency, service, and merit in governance, highlighting his administration's dedication to the welfare of the people of Abia State.

Governor Otti assured the lawmakers and the public of his administration's integrity, stating that transparency and good governance are essential for a successful leadership. He emphasized the importance of a happy populace as a measure of effective governance.

The Governor assured the defectors of a level playing field in the Labour Party and encouraged them to bring more constituents into the party. He expressed optimism about receiving more defections into the LP in the future.

The Majority Leader of the house, Mr. Uchenna Kalu, confirmed that the two lawmakers announced their defection during a plenary session. Nwogu and Ahuama cited the achievements of the Otti-led administration as the reason for their decision, expressing their desire to deepen democracy at the grassroots level for the benefit of their constituents by aligning with the Governor's party.
