The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has raised concerns with Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding alleged safety violations by Air Peace, a Nigerian carrier operating the Lagos-London route. This development comes just three months after Air Peace began its operations on this route.
According to reports, two mandatory occurrence reports were sent to the UK CAA regarding Air Peace, which were then forwarded to the NCAA. The UK CAA's complaint, titled 'United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report' and 'NATS Management System Safety Report,' highlighted issues with the airline's compliance with aviation safety regulations.
In response, the NCAA has written to Air Peace seeking clarification on the issues raised. The letter, dated May 14, 2024, and signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, the NCAA General Manager of Operations, highlighted concerns about the airline's use of Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions without operational approval, as well as the lack of necessary mounting devices, charging points, or backup battery for the EFB.
Air Peace, which recently started operating to London Gatwick from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK, has not yet responded to these allegations. Efforts to reach the airline's spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, as calls were not answered and text messages went unanswered.
