Unai Emery Sets Record as Fastest Aston Villa Manager to Reach 100 Wins

Unai Emery has reached a major milestone in his time at Aston Villa after securing his 100th victory as the club’s manager, becoming the fastest coach in the club’s history to reach the mark.

According to BBC Sport, the achievement came after Villa defeated Lille OSC in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash in the UEFA Europa League.

The win underscores the remarkable transformation the Midlands club has experienced since Emery took charge in October 2022.

The Spanish manager reached the milestone in just 181 matches, giving him an impressive win rate of 55.2 percent — the best in Aston Villa’s managerial history. His record surpasses that of former Villa manager Ron Saunders, who needed four seasons to achieve his 100th win with the club.

Saunders remains one of the most iconic figures in Villa’s history. During his time at the club, he guided the team back to the top division of English football, won two League Cups and led them to the 1980–81 First Division title before the club famously lifted the European Cup in 1982.

Since returning to English football, Emery has revitalised Aston Villa, turning the team into a strong competitor both domestically and in European competitions. His tactical approach and meticulous attention to detail have helped Villa become particularly formidable at home while also performing confidently on the continental stage.

Among managers in the Premier League during Emery’s tenure at Villa Park, only Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Mikel Arteta of Arsenal FC have recorded more victories, with 137 and 118 wins respectively.

Despite the achievement, Emery played down the milestone after the match, choosing instead to focus on the team’s progress and their ambitions in Europe.

A four-time winner of the Europa League with Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF, the Spanish coach is now aiming to guide Aston Villa deeper into the competition as he seeks a record-extending fifth title.

Under his leadership, the club continues to grow in confidence, raising hopes among fans that more success could be on the horizon.
