The University of Ilorin in Kwara State has taken disciplinary action against 19 students, including six final-year students, for their involvement in various offences. The decision to expel or rusticate these students was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole (SAN), following recommendations from the Students' Disciplinary Committee.
The offences ranged from misconduct, theft, and examination malpractices to hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, and admission racketeering. The penalties imposed on the students included rustication for either one semester or one academic session, as well as expulsion. The affected students were from different academic levels, including 100, 200, 300, and 400 levels.
Among the expelled students were Amatokwu Evans from the Department of Art Education, Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua from the Department of Biochemistry, Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua from the Mathematics Department, Sulaimon Mayowa from Biochemistry, and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel from the Physiotherapy Department. They were found guilty of offences such as examination malpractice, theft, and racketeering.
The statement also mentioned 14 students who were rusticated for one semester or a complete academic session. They included Adebayo Adeleke from Performing Arts, Hassan Hanan Adebola from History and International Studies, Ayodele Samuel Koseunti from History and International Studies, Toki Opeyemi Ayomide from History and International Studies, Makinde Usman Ayomide from Linguistic and Nigeria Languages, and Onibiyo Eniola Gideon from History and International Studies, among others. These students were involved in various offences, including examination malpractice, theft, and admission racketeering.
