On Tuesday, July 9, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) held nationwide protests across public university campuses. The demonstrations demanded the immediate release of their withheld salaries by the federal government.
NASU National President, Makolo Hassan, affirmed on Monday that the protests were inevitable, citing the government's failure to address their demands after a warning strike held months ago. At Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, non-academic staff carried placards with various inscriptions, urging the government to meet their salary and other outstanding demands.

Similarly, at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in Imo State, disgruntled workers marched throughout the university community to emphasize their grievances. The protests were a response to the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued by NASU and SSANU to the federal government in June.
The unions' actions reflect growing frustration among university staff over unpaid salaries and unmet demands, highlighting the ongoing tension between the federal government and university workers.
