The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) launched a nationwide protest over four months of withheld salaries. This protest has disrupted administrative operations in universities and inter-university centres.
Starting at 7:30 am, union members gathered at Unity Fountain in Abuja before marching to the Federal Ministries of Education and Labour and Employment. NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi stated that letters demanding the payment of owed salaries would be presented to both ministries.

The unions expressed frustration over the government's inaction despite previous meetings. The withheld salaries stem from the 'No work, no pay' policy invoked by former Labour Minister Chris Ngige during a 2022 strike by university-based unions, under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Although President Bola Tinubu granted amnesty and directed the payment of the withheld salaries in October 2023, the workers have yet to receive the funds, prompting the current protest. The unions are demanding immediate resolution and payment of the owed salaries.
