Our country, Nigeria is in the vicelike grip of untouchables. These are heavily connected to the power centre, be it at the state, local government or central government levels. They are big boys/girls who are above the law. One glaring example of an untouchable is Dr Peter Odili, a former governor of Rivers state who died on December 6, 2009, was given a perpetual injunction, by a fed High Court, PH presided over by Justice Ibrahim Buba.
Until the judgement is vacated by a superior court, Dr Odili cannot be queried let alone investigated or prosecuted by the EFCC or any of its agents. Where such a judgement is pronounced on the planet, I do not know. No attempt at impugning the memory of Femi Osibona, the builder of 21-storey structure on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi here. We hear he challenged the “stop work” notice placed on the site.
You must be so connected to undertake such a gamble. Over time, we had slowly and steadily instituted the policing system we have in place. We deserve. What i mean is this, that many big boy/girl who ran fowl of the law was let off the hook by a phone call to the police hierarchy that acts promptly.
