US Airstrikes in Sokoto Kill Terrorists, Destroy Hideouts and Vehicles

Fresh footage from United States airstrikes carried out in Sokoto State on December 25 has revealed that several terrorists were killed, while their hideouts and vehicles were destroyed during the operation.

The video, sighted on Saturday, shows three separate airstrikes conducted on terrorist locations between December 24 and 25, 2025. Although the footage has not yet been officially declassified, it provides a clearer picture of the scale of the operation.

Shortly after the first strike, a secondary explosion was recorded, indicating that explosives or ammunition were stored at the targeted site. The footage also captured suspected terrorists attempting to flee the area after the initial bombardment. These fleeing elements were later engaged, while multiple vehicles were seen destroyed in the process.

However, the exact number of casualties and the total damage inflicted could not be independently confirmed from the video alone. Military sources explained that a detailed battle damage assessment is still ongoing to determine the full impact of the strikes.

Earlier, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, confirmed that assessments were being conducted and assured that full details would be released once concluded. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on December 31, 2025, he said the military was carefully reviewing the outcome of the joint U.S.–Nigeria operation before making official findings public.

Onoja also stated that intelligence reports had confirmed the presence of terrorists in the targeted areas prior to the strikes.

The airstrikes were earlier announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Christmas Day, describing them as lethal attacks on Islamic State targets in north-western Nigeria. The Nigerian government later confirmed the operation, noting that it was part of ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

Despite claims in some quarters that the operation had little effect, the footage suggests significant damage to terrorist infrastructure in the affected areas.
