Violent Clash Erupts in Plateau State, Leaving Homes in Ruins and Cattle Rustled

A violent clash between Motola and Taroh youths in the Ponglong area of Lalin district, Mikang local government council, Plateau state, resulted in the destruction of several homes and barns, as well as the rustling of cattle. The clash, which occurred on Saturday night, left some individuals dead, while others sustained various degrees of injuries. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

According to Hon. Daniel Kungmi, the transition chairman of the council, the clash initially started between two individuals but was later escalated by irate youths and criminals. The situation quickly deteriorated, leading to the burning of houses and barns, with criminal elements taking advantage of the chaos to rustle cattle and other valuables. Security operatives were alerted and swiftly moved to the affected community to restore law and order.

Kungmi emphasized the need for residents to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to be wary of individuals seeking to exploit the situation for nefarious purposes. He also announced plans to hold a stakeholders meeting with the transition committee chairman of Langtang North local government council to address the clash, which he described as a conflict between brothers.

The commissioner of police in the state is expected to visit the affected community on Sunday to assess the situation. However, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, has not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
