The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will throw his weight behind individuals and leaders who align with President Bola Tinubu, urging residents to “support those that government will listen to.”
Wike made the remarks on Thursday during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Water Supply Project in Karu, where he commended former FCT senator, Philip Aduda, and the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, for their contributions to community development.
The minister promised to construct a 2km road in Karu at Aduda’s request, stressing that his administration will continue to back leaders who use their access to government for the benefit of the people.
“There is a road where you said is about 2km, is it not? Consider it done,” Wike said. “One thing about government and politics is to support those with the capacity to deliver. Support those that government will listen to.”

He praised Maikalangu as “hardworking and result-driven,” pointing out that the council chairman had facilitated several infrastructure projects, including roads in Saburi, Kabusa-Takushere, and Dei-Dei.
“The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. If he wins as chairman of AMAC, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know the party he belongs to. But I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike added.
The minister also took a swipe at past administrations for neglecting satellite towns, particularly on issues of potable water, noting that Tinubu’s government had begun to fulfil its promise to provide clean water in Karu.
“We have had governments that stayed for five or eight years. Did any of them bring you water? This government promised you water, and today we have come to deliver it. Agreement is agreement. The people of Karu will remember the government that remembered them,” he declared.
Aduda, a former senator under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represented the FCT from 2011 to 2023 before losing his seat in the last general election. Maikalangu, on the other hand, is seeking re-election as AMAC chairman in February 2026 under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), having defected from the PDP in 2024.
