Wike Revokes PDP’s Land Allocation in Abuja Over Unpaid Ground Rent

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s land allocation for its national secretariat in Abuja due to the party’s failure to pay ground rent for two decades.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, titled "Notice of Right of Occupancy with File No: MISC 81346 in Respect of Plot No: 243," the FCT Ministry formally notified the PDP of the revocation. The letter, signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration, cited the PDP's failure to pay annual ground rents from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, as the primary reason for the action.

The notice outlined that the revocation was in line with Section 28, Subsection 5 of the Land Use Act and referenced the party’s contravention of its land grant terms. The Ministry had issued numerous public reminders via national dailies and electronic media for property allottees in the FCT, including the PDP, to settle any outstanding ground rent payments.

The letter, which also stressed the breach of contractual obligations by the PDP, read in part:
"The revocation is in view of your continued contravention of the terms and conditions of the grant of the Right of Occupancy by failing to pay the annual ground rents due on the property for twenty (20) years."

This decision comes as part of the FCT's wider efforts to enforce land management regulations and ensure proper compliance with legal obligations within Abuja.
