Workers in Ebonyi State joined a nationwide protest against the high cost of living, led by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in Ebonyi, Ọgụgụa Egwu. The protesters marched through major streets and roads in Abakaliki, converging at the Pa Ngele Ọruta stadium before continuing their march.

During a brief stop at Udensi Roundabout near the old Government House, Egwu highlighted the challenges faced by workers, expressing their hunger and suffering. He emphasized that the protest was not against any individual but a cry for help due to the unbearable living conditions.

Egwu pointed out the high cost of basic necessities, such as a sachet of pure water being more than N50, a litre of fuel exceeding N700, and a bag of cement costing over N10,000. He stressed the inability of workers to afford basic needs like food and education for their children, calling for an end to the oppression of the ruling class.

Security operatives accompanied the protesters during the march to ensure their safety. The demonstration aimed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by workers and to demand government action to alleviate their suffering.
