President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), making her the first woman to hold this position. The announcement was made by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
With over 20 years of experience in various fields such as Human Resources, Finance, and Administration, Mrs. Umar's appointment underscores President Tinubu's commitment to gender inclusion. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration, holding ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
In her previous role as Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Umar played a pivotal role in the bank's strategic transformation. She led efforts to modernize and digitize the institution, ensuring it became a more efficient provider of mortgage and financial services.
President Tinubu expects Mrs. Umar to bring financial and operational discipline to NEMA. He aims for the agency to become more performance-driven and proactive in its emergency response efforts, particularly in areas of prevention and climate change readiness.
