The Defence Headquarters has reported a significant development in the fight against terrorism, with 122 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP/JAS) fighters and their families surrendering to troops in the eastern region over the past week. Additionally, troops have successfully eliminated 192 terrorists, apprehended 341 criminals, and rescued 62 kidnap victims across various operational areas in Nigeria.

Addressing the press in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted the recovery of large quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined diesel, kerosene, and petrol in the Niger Delta region. The operations also led to the seizure of 211 assorted weapons, including 128 AK47 rifles, and the recovery of 6,288 assorted ammunition.

Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized the military's commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and disrupting their supply lines. He stressed the need for continued vigilance and professionalism in distinguishing terrorists from civilians during operations to avoid propaganda attempts by the terrorists to portray civilian casualties as innocent victims.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its determination to pursue terrorist leaders and their accomplices, urging the media to be cautious of terrorist propaganda aimed at discrediting the military's efforts. The military's operations have significantly degraded the capabilities of terrorist groups, preventing them from achieving their strategic goals and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
