13 Ondo Lawmakers Pass Vote of No Confidence in Speaker Over Governorship Endorsement

Ondo Speaker

A new crisis is unfolding in the Ondo State House of Assembly as 13 lawmakers out of 26 have expressed a vote of no confidence in Speaker Rt. Hon Olamide Oladiji. This development follows the Speaker's endorsement of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket.

Governor Aiyedatiwa had declared his intention to contest the November 16 governorship election in the state, with the Speaker and other assembly members publicly endorsing him during a ceremony. However, the 13 lawmakers, led by Majority Leader Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, swiftly denied the endorsement.

Ogunmolasuyi criticized the Speaker for disrespecting the independence and integrity of the house in his endorsement politics. He emphasized that the House had not passed any resolution to endorse Governor Aiyedatiwa, stating that such a decision would be made collectively and following due process.

The Majority Leader stressed that the House operates on democratic principles and would take decisions regarding the endorsement of a gubernatorial candidate in accordance with relevant laws. He denounced the Speaker's declaration as untrue, misleading, and unparliamentary, leading the lawmakers to pass a vote of no confidence in his leadership.
