Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of 15 individuals following a horrific attack on a mosque in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government Area. On Wednesday, a man allegedly doused the mosque with petrol, locked its doors, and set it ablaze, trapping worshippers inside.

Usaini Gumel, the state Commissioner of Police, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that initially, only one worshipper was reported dead. However, the death toll rose to 15 as more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. A total of 24 worshippers were injured in the attack.

The suspect, Shafi’u Abubakar, 38, is currently in police custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by a family conflict over the distribution of inheritance.

Gumel assured that the police are continuing their investigation into the incident to uncover more details and ensure justice for the victims. The injured survivors are still receiving medical care at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
