2026 World Cup: All Three Host Nations Knocked Out Before Quarter-finals

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will continue without any of its host nations after the United States became the last co-host to crash out of the tournament.

The US suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16 on Monday in Seattle, joining Mexico and Canada, who had already been eliminated over the weekend.

Canada were the first to exit after a 3-0 loss to Morocco on Saturday. Azzedine Ounahi scored twice before Soufiane Rahimi added a late goal to seal Morocco's comfortable victory. Canada's campaign was also affected by injury concerns surrounding captain Alphonso Davies.

Mexico's hopes ended on Sunday with a dramatic 3-2 defeat to England at the Estadio Azteca. Jude Bellingham struck twice in quick succession before Harry Kane converted a penalty to send England into the quarter-finals. Following the loss, reports indicate that head coach Javier Aguirre is expected to be replaced by his assistant, Rafael Márquez.

The United States completed the disappointing outing for the co-hosts after Belgium dominated their Round of 16 clash. The match attracted attention before kick-off due to the reinstatement of a red card involving US forward Folarin Balogun and comments made by US President Donald Trump.

The 2026 World Cup is the first edition to be hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 teams. Matches are being played across 16 cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with the tournament set to end on July 19.

With the exits of the US, Mexico and Canada, the quarter-finals will now feature only non-host nations, including Morocco, France, Norway, Spain, Belgium and England, while the remaining spots are still to be decided.
