Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, on Wednesday met with APC ward executives from the 33 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots support ahead of the 2027 election.
The meeting, held at Jogor Centre along Liberty Road in Ibadan, focused on party unity, mobilisation, and strategies to reposition the APC for victory in the next governorship election.
Addressing the party executives, Adelabu described grassroots members as the foundation of the party and stressed that rebuilding the APC must begin from the ward level.
According to him, meaningful governance and political success cannot be achieved without active participation from people at the grassroots.
“The grassroots remain the pillars of the party and an important part of any successful government. Sustainable development must start from the communities where governance is truly felt,” he said.
Adelabu recently resigned from the Federal Government to pursue his governorship ambition and had earlier met with members of the APC state executive council at the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, where he formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
During that meeting, he rejected calls for the adoption of a consensus candidate and expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket and winning the election.
His declaration came amid growing endorsements for Senator Sharafadeen Alli by some APC leaders as their preferred candidate for the 2027 race.
Speaking further at Wednesday’s gathering, Adelabu said his ambition goes beyond winning an election, noting that his vision is centred on inclusive development driven by grassroots engagement.

“I can’t do it alone. I need your support to achieve this ambition. I assure you that I will not disappoint the party and the people of Oyo State if elected governor in 2027,” he told the ward executives.
He also promised to maintain regular engagement with party members across the state and pledged to prioritise their welfare and involvement in decision-making if elected.
Adelabu urged party leaders and members to remain united and committed to the progressive ideals of the APC, adding that the party’s chances in 2027 would largely depend on its strength at the grassroots level.
“Your support will be central to both my campaign and governance agenda if I emerge as the party’s candidate,” he added.
In their remarks, some party leaders commended Adelabu for what they described as his loyalty and commitment to the APC.
A party leader from Akinyele Local Government, Isiaka Alimi, praised Adelabu for respecting party structures and urged members to support his ambition.
Similarly, Wale Sanusi, a party leader from Ibadan North Local Government, called on APC faithful across the state to rally behind Adelabu, expressing confidence that he would deliver good governance if elected governor in 2027.
