The Ondo State Police Command has arrested at least 10 men in connection with a violent robbery that took place in the Igoba community, Akure North Local Government Area, on Thursday night.
According to reports, the armed gang stormed the area around 11:30 p.m., attacking residents and carting away valuables at gunpoint. Several people were injured during the attack, including one woman identified as Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo, who was assaulted and robbed of her belongings.
The attackers also invaded the palace of the traditional ruler, Oba Adinlewa John, in what police described as an attempt on his life. The monarch was said to have narrowly escaped unharmed.
Confirming the arrests in a statement on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and launched an operation to track down the suspects.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the violent attack on Igoba Community,” Ayanlade said. “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, immediately deployed tactical teams led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations. Their efforts led to the arrest of the suspects.”
He added that the suspects have already confessed to their involvement in the attack and will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
