Adeboye hails Nigeria as a unique, happy nation

Lagos — The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has described Nigeria as a truly special nation, commending the resilience and joy of its people despite the many challenges the country faces.

Speaking during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving service at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta, which coincided with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Pastor Adeboye said Nigerians remain some of the happiest people on earth.

“Across the world, from sunrise to sunset, I can boldly say there’s hardly any country like Nigeria,” he said. “Yes, we have our problems, but we still hold the record as the happiest people on earth. No matter what we’re going through, we always find a reason to laugh.”

He recalled a conversation he once had in the United Kingdom, where a woman remarked that Nigerians’ laughter was infectious. “I smiled and told her, ‘You don’t know the half of it. Nigerians can laugh at anything, no matter how tough life gets,’” he said with a chuckle.

Surrendering to the ‘King of Kings’

Preaching on the theme “King of Kings,” Pastor Adeboye urged Nigerians to submit completely to God, explaining that true greatness and promotion come only through divine elevation.

“You don’t truly understand greatness until you surrender to the King of Kings,” he said. “If you think you’re already great and don’t need to submit to Jesus Christ, He’ll leave you where you are. But one day, you’ll realize that refusing to surrender only cheats you of your destiny.”

He also referenced Bible stories — including Jonah’s time in the belly of the whale and the prophet who was killed by a lion for disobedience — to illustrate the importance of obeying God’s instructions fully.

Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Commitment to Lagos

Also present at the service was Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to serving the people. He urged Lagos residents to continue praying for the state and the nation.

Quoting scripture, the governor said:

“If the Lord does not build a house, the builders labor in vain. We must remain thankful and keep God at the center of all we do.”

Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that his government would continue to deliver on its promises.

“As long as I have breath, I will keep serving — and serving well,” he said. “My prayer is that God will continue to guide us and help us reach the destination He has prepared for this state.”
