Presidency orders military to flush out bandits from Kwara forests

The Nigerian Army has deployed a full brigade and heavy military equipment to several parts of Kwara South and Kwara North, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to flush out bandits hiding in the state’s forests.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaiye, it was confirmed that troops have begun intensive operations around Oke Ode and Babanla in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The operation is also extending to Edu and Patigi, where soldiers are combing through dense forests that have served as hideouts for kidnappers carrying out attacks and abductions for ransom.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who had earlier briefed President Tinubu about the worsening security situation, expressed gratitude for the swift federal response and the army’s renewed efforts to restore peace.

“We will not hold back any support for the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work tirelessly to protect lives and property,” the governor said.

He explained that the operation—part of the wider Operation Fasan Yanma—is aimed at wiping out all forms of criminal activity threatening the safety of residents in Kwara South and North.

“I sincerely thank President Tinubu and the security agencies for their continued commitment. We have full confidence that Brigadier General A.A. Babatunde and his team will deliver on this crucial mission and bring lasting peace to the affected areas,” AbdulRazaq added.

He also appreciated the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division, and other senior officers for their strong backing and coordination in the ongoing operation.
