Reach your full potential or risk regret, Tuchel tells Rashford

England manager Thomas Tuchel has sent a strong message to Marcus Rashford, urging the forward to stay consistent and make the most of his talent — or risk looking back on his career with regret.

Speaking in an interview reported by Sky Sports on Tuesday, Tuchel praised Rashford’s natural ability and finishing skills but stressed that talent alone isn’t enough to thrive at the top level.

The England boss, who has been in regular contact with the Barcelona loanee, said Rashford has what it takes to become one of the best forwards in world football, but warned that he must start delivering more goals and assists to reach that level.

Rashford has scored three goals and provided four assists in 10 appearances for Barcelona since joining from Manchester United on loan this summer.

“He can be one of the best in the world because of his finishing and quality,” Tuchel said. “But he still has to make the right decisions. He’s young enough to do that now because if he doesn’t, he might look back in 10 years and be disappointed with what he could have achieved.”

Tuchel added that Rashford’s main challenge is maintaining consistency at both club and international levels.

“That’s the headline for him — to keep pushing himself to the limit,” he continued. “His limit is very, very high, maybe higher than most. But potential is a dangerous word in elite sports because it means nothing if you don’t show it regularly. He has to prove himself every game, whether he starts or comes off the bench.”

Rashford has featured in all but one of Tuchel’s England squads since the German took charge in March. The only matches he missed were the summer internationals against Senegal and Andorra, following an injury he sustained at the end of the 2024/25 season while on loan at Aston Villa.
