Fresh Wave of Attacks in Niger State as Bandits Abduct 24, Mutilate Blind Resident

Bandits have struck again in Niger State, abducting 24 people — including a pregnant woman — and mutilating a blind resident in two separate attacks within Erena Local Government Area.

The latest attack happened on Wednesday in Palaita community, where armed men raided a farmland as labourers were harvesting crops. Witnesses said the gunmen surrounded the workers and forcefully marched them into the bush. One of the abducted victims is said to be a heavily pregnant woman.

In another incident within the same LGA, the attackers reportedly cut off the arm of a blind man after he allegedly failed to “cooperate” with their demands.

The renewed violence has thrown neighbouring communities into panic, with residents calling on the government and security agencies to urgently step in and address the rising insecurity in the state.
