President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that he will not betray the trust placed in him, insisting that his administration’s economic reforms are aimed at creating a stronger and more prosperous future for the country.
The President made the statement through Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday during the inauguration of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement executives, a grassroots mobilisation platform designed to promote the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda across Nigeria.
Tinubu said his government remained committed to difficult but necessary reforms, arguing that meaningful national progress often requires short-term sacrifices.
Since taking office in 2023, the administration has introduced major policies, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market. The government has maintained that the reforms are aimed at strengthening the economy, increasing government revenue and creating long-term benefits for citizens.
Speaking at the event, Akpabio praised the President’s policies, claiming that monthly allocations to the three tiers of government had increased from below N700bn to over N2tn.
He said the reforms had improved states’ financial capacity and reduced dependence on oil revenue.
“I am determined never to betray the trust of Nigerians and the vision of ensuring a better Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
The President urged members of the movement to engage Nigerians through dialogue, listening and peaceful political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said politics should not create permanent divisions, adding that Nigeria’s interest must remain greater than any individual, office or political party.
“Nigeria is greater than any political party. Nigeria is greater than any officeholder. Nigeria is greater than any election,” he stated.
Tinubu described the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement members as ambassadors of democratic engagement, urging them to visit communities, hear citizens’ concerns and communicate government policies.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also praised the administration’s reforms, describing policies such as subsidy removal, exchange rate reforms and tax reforms as decisions made for the country’s future.
He said the movement should focus on conversations with Nigerians rather than only seeking political support.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, urged members of the group to take the government’s achievements directly to households, saying elections are won through grassroots engagement.
He highlighted projects and reforms in infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development as examples of the administration’s achievements.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement was established as a nationwide platform to strengthen support for Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration ceremony featured cultural displays, presentations, a documentary on the government’s achievements, and the unveiling of buses to support the movement’s activities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
