Tinubu Sends 32 New Ambassadorial Nominees to Senate for Confirmation

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a fresh list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for approval, just days after submitting the first set of three names.

The new list includes notable figures such as former INEC Chairman, Mahmud Yakubu; former presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

According to a statement released on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu urged the Senate to speedily confirm 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors.

The statement explained that four women made the career ambassadors’ list, while six were nominated as non-career ambassadors.

Among the non-career nominees are Reno Omokri (Delta), Ogbonnaya Kalu (Abia), former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Adebayo, former Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former INEC Chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former Katsina Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari, Yakubu N. Gambo, and Professor Nora Ladi Daduut.

Others include former Lagos Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro; former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode; and Nkechi Ufochukwu from Anambra.

Also on the list are former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent, ex-Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Ondo Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and former Vatican ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu.

Career ambassador nominees include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), and Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun).

Others are Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), and ambassadors Shehu Barde (Katsina), Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari (Kwara), and Wahab Adekola Akande (Osun).

The nominees are expected to be posted to key diplomatic locations including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, and missions such as the UN, UNESCO, and the AU.

They will receive their specific postings after Senate confirmation.

Last week, Tinubu had already nominated Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun), who may be posted to the UK, USA, or France.

More ambassadorial nominations are expected soon.
