Police Ministry Goes Digital, Introduces New Platform to Replace Paperwork

The Ministry of Police Affairs has begun a major shift from manual paperwork to a fully digital work system with the introduction of an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform.

The new platform is designed to replace traditional paper-based processes with a secure digital framework that promotes better governance, transparency, and efficiency across the ministry. It features tools such as Gov CMS for managing workflows, Gov Email for official communication, Gov Conference for virtual meetings, and Gov Drive for secure file storage.

The initiative supports the Federal Government’s broader plan to digitise the entire civil service by December 31, 2025, as championed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack.

Speaking at the launch on Sunday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr Ogbonnaya Nlia, described the ECM as a significant milestone in the ministry’s digital transformation journey.

He explained that the platform would strengthen accountability, improve transparency, preserve institutional memory, and enhance operational efficiency.

“This is more than just introducing technology. It marks the beginning of a new work culture built on accountability, transparency, strong record-keeping, and operational excellence,” Nlia said.

According to him, the ECM will help the ministry manage official records more effectively, track workflows, secure sensitive documents, and improve service delivery across departments.

He urged staff members to fully embrace the system, assuring them that adequate training and technical support would be provided to ensure smooth adoption.

“The world today runs on speed and technology. These tools can only deliver value when they are fully embraced and properly used,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Group Head of Research and Digital Development at Galaxy Backbone, Mr Akintayo Bamidele, said the deployment represents a major shift in how government operations and public service delivery are carried out.

He noted that the ECM is being rolled out across federal ministries as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth transition to fully digitised work environments.

For decades, Nigeria’s civil service has relied heavily on paper-based systems, often leading to delays, inefficiencies, and limited transparency. The new digital push aims to reduce bureaucracy, strengthen data security, and improve overall service delivery.

The Federal Government has set December 31, 2025, as the deadline for completing the digital transformation of all federal ministries, a move expected to modernise public administration and improve efficiency nationwide.
