Anthony Joshua Involved in Ogun Road Crash, Two Feared Dead

World-famous boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on Monday morning along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun area of Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred shortly after 11am on a busy stretch of the highway, just before Danco Filling Station near the Sagamu Interchange, inward Ibadan.

The vehicle conveying Joshua, a Lexus SUV, reportedly collided with a stationary truck parked by the roadside. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

According to witnesses at the scene, the convoy consisted of two vehicles — a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated at the back of the Lexus, alongside another passenger, while two others occupied the front seats. His security detail was in the second vehicle.

Rescue efforts began immediately after the crash, with bystanders flagging down vehicles to help before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived. Sadly, two occupants of the Lexus — the front-seat passenger and another person seated beside Joshua — were confirmed dead at the scene.

Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital alongside one other survivor for medical treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the name of the hospital.

The heavyweight boxer, who has strong Nigerian roots and attended boarding school in nearby Ikenne, was recently in the spotlight after knocking out YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, 2025. He is also expected to face longtime rival Tyson Fury in 2026.

Fans quickly took to social media to express concern and wish him a speedy recovery as news of the accident spread.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command said two people lost their lives, while Joshua and another individual were hospitalised. The police extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that a thorough investigation has commenced.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps said preliminary findings suggest the crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, which led the Lexus SUV to lose control and collide with the stationary truck.

The FRSC described speeding and dangerous overtaking as major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian highways and urged motorists to drive with caution, especially on high-speed routes like the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Further updates on Joshua’s condition and the outcome of the investigation are expected in the coming hours.
