The Deputy Head of Mission of the British High Commission, Simon Field, has paid a visit to world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua at the hospital following the deadly road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, Field met with Joshua during the visit and also held discussions with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as British authorities continue to follow developments surrounding the incident.
The statement noted that the British High Commission had been formally informed of the crash and has remained in close contact with the hospital and the Ogun State Government. It added that the families of those who lost their lives had also been reached through the High Commission.
The accident, which occurred around midday on Monday, involved a Toyota Lexus vehicle conveying Joshua and three other occupants. Two passengers lost their lives in the crash and were identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, a 36-year-old Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, a 36-year-old British citizen.
Following the incident, Governor Abiodun visited the Lagos hospital where Joshua was receiving treatment and was later joined by Governor Sanwo-Olu. Both governors reportedly stayed at the facility for several hours to ensure that the boxer received proper medical care.
Speaking on the matter, Abiodun said he went straight to the hospital after learning of the accident and personally monitored Joshua’s treatment alongside his Lagos counterpart.
“As soon as I was informed, I headed to the hospital and was later joined by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We supervised Anthony Joshua’s care and remained there for over seven hours,” he said.

The Ogun State Government said Joshua was in stable condition and responding well to treatment, expressing satisfaction with the quality of care provided by the medical team.
President Bola Tinubu was also briefed on the incident. According to the state government, the President spoke separately with Joshua, his mother, and Governor Abiodun, offering his condolences and words of encouragement.
“This is a deeply painful moment. We must stand together, support one another, and remain united as a people with a shared destiny,” the President was quoted as saying.
Authorities have ordered a full investigation into the cause of the accident, assuring the public that details will be released once the probe is concluded. Further updates on Joshua’s condition, the government said, will be shared as necessary.
