An early morning explosion on Tuesday caused panic at the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, but authorities have confirmed that no lives were lost.
The Kebbi State Police Command said the blast occurred in the early hours of the day and immediately drew the attention of security agencies, who moved swiftly to secure the area and prevent any further danger.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the situation was fully under control.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” he said.
Usman explained that a joint security team made up of police officers, military personnel and local vigilantes quickly cordoned off the area. He added that Explosive Ordnance Disposal and CBRN specialists were also deployed to carefully assess the scene.

According to the police, no casualties were recorded, although one of the buildings within the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged by the explosion. The occupants of the affected building had already evacuated and were safe.
The Commissioner of Police has since ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams to the area to maintain calm and reassure residents.
Usman noted that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, assuring the public that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and stay away from the hospital premises for now, to allow security operatives carry out their work without interference.
