The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the FCT Administration is working towards building a strong and resilient road network across Abuja and its surrounding satellite towns, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made this known on Friday during an inspection tour of several communities, including Karu, Karshi, Apo, Bwari and Kubwa. He said the government’s infrastructure drive is not limited to the city centre, but is now focused on areas that have been neglected for years.
According to him, Karu is already showing visible progress, as road reconstruction projects in the area are being handled by an indigenous construction company.
“For example, we went to Karu—every road there has been reconstructed by a Nigerian contractor, Abdul Val Constructions Company. I’m very pleased with the quality of work being delivered,” he said.
Wike also spoke on the long-abandoned Apo–Karshi Road project, describing it as a key route that needed urgent attention. He explained that the contract was initially awarded years ago but left incomplete, prompting the government to revoke and re-award it.
“One particularly significant project is the Apo–Karshi Road, which was originally awarded years ago but left incomplete. Because of the importance of that road, we felt we couldn’t wait any longer for progress. The contract was rescinded and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company, and they have begun work in earnest,” he stated.
The minister further highlighted the Bwari–Kubwa Road as another major project currently underway, noting that it will improve movement and stimulate economic activities in the area.
“Another major project is the Bwari–Kubwa Road. It’s a critical structural development that will boost economic activities in communities between Bwari and Kubwa,” he said.
He added that more link roads are also being constructed across different satellite towns as part of a broader plan to transform the FCT through infrastructure development.
“We also have other link roads under construction across the Satellite Towns. All of this represents massive infrastructure development that will transform the local economy. People who have never experienced proper road infrastructure before are now seeing real change,” Wike said.

During the inspection, the minister reacted strongly to complaints about poor refuse management along the Orozo–Karshi Road, warning that officials responsible could lose their appointments if the situation does not improve immediately.
“If by Monday I see continued negligence or refusal to comply with performance standards, I will not hesitate to terminate the appointment of those responsible. It is unacceptable. It is very embarrassing,” he warned.
On when residents should expect the benefits of the projects, Wike assured that the impact would be felt within the year.
He also disclosed that he resumed inspections earlier in the week after concluding discussions with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), which resulted in the suspension of the indefinite strike by workers of the FCT Administration.
