President Donald Trump will on Friday meet with U.S. special forces soldiers who were involved in the dramatic operation that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro earlier this year, the White House has announced.
According to reports, Mr. Trump will be joined by First Lady Melania Trump for the visit to Fort Bragg military base in North Carolina, where he will greet the troops and military families.
The meeting follows a high-profile U.S. military operation in Caracas in January, during which elite American forces detained Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, before transporting them to the United States to face federal charges, including allegations of drug trafficking.

The capture, part of a campaign dubbed Operation Absolute Resolve, involved years of planning and was confirmed by U.S. officials as the culmination of coordinated intelligence and military efforts.
Maduro and Flores are currently in U.S. custody and have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them in federal court in New York, with further hearings scheduled in the coming weeks.
The White House said the event at Fort Bragg will also serve as recognition of the troops’ service and dedication, highlighting their role in what the administration has described as a critical national security achievement.
