The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced a new award initiative aimed at recognising bus operating companies that show strong commitment to supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos State.

The agency disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X page on Tuesday, following a courtesy visit by the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA). The meeting focused on strategies to improve inclusion and accessibility within the state’s public transport system.

LAMATA’s Managing Director, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, praised LASODA for its continuous advocacy on disability inclusion. On her part, LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, highlighted the need for priority seating for PWDs and the introduction of sign language video translations for public announcements.
