Army Warns of More Suicide Bombers in Maiduguri After Deadly Blasts

The Nigerian Army has issued a fresh security alert over the possible deployment of multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, urging residents to avoid crowded places.

The warning follows a deadly attack on Monday evening that claimed 23 lives and left 108 others injured across parts of the city.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, said the explosions occurred around 7:05 p.m. during the Iftar period, when many residents had gathered in public spaces to break their fast.

According to him, the attacks targeted busy locations including the Post Office area, the Monday Market axis, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

He described the incidents as coordinated attempts to cause mass casualties and spread panic within the metropolis.

“The cowardly attacks targeted crowded public areas in an attempt by the terrorists to inflict mass casualties and create panic,” the statement read.

Security forces, alongside the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and other agencies, swiftly moved in to secure the affected areas and prevent further attacks.

Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), evacuated victims to nearby hospitals such as the General Hospital, Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for urgent treatment.
