A middle-aged man, Malime Ejor, has been accused of killing his girlfriend, Moshie Igu, in Cross River State, in an incident that has sparked outrage among residents and renewed calls for justice.
According to sources in the community, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 6:00 a.m., at a farm in Nwang Village, Ekajuk community, in Ogoja Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the 35-year-old suspect allegedly attacked the 26-year-old woman following a heated argument over accusations of infidelity. A resident, who spoke anonymously, said people rushed to the scene after hearing noise and commotion but arrived too late to stop the attack.
“We heard shouting and ran there, but before we could intervene, he was already attacking her with a machete,” the source said.
The suspect was eventually subdued by youths in the area and handed over to security operatives.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect is currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
“The suspect was arrested and is in custody. A full investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
He added that police officers who responded to the report rescued the suspect from an attempted mob action by angry residents.

The police also noted that arrangements were being made to deposit the victim’s remains at the General Hospital Mortuary in Ogoja, while the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with many residents calling for swift justice and stronger measures to address cases of domestic violence.
